Caulking, positioning, breaking your neck....all sounds like too much to me.
So I am pretty sure that my fix was the best and simplest.

As far as the rear view mirror....I dont think theres a fix for that unless you have drop top capabilities.
To paraphrase one of the members....you'll only just be getting a better view of the inside.
