Re: My first time at the drags
Well to try and answer all the questions, on the first run I did not have the rpms up at all at launch. After that run the launch felt weird so I lowered my tire pressure from a way too high 45 psi to 35 psi and then ran it again but this time launching at around 1200 rpm. After that I ran my quickest time and stuck with it. I was a little afraid of holding the brake so far and trying to build rpms because I felt in the time it would take for my foot to travel off the brake it would kill my reaction time, thinking about it not though I probably could just time it a whole lot better.
Tom2112 to answer your question, it was my first time ever at a drag strip so I was pretty excited to have all of my first three runs be in the 12's. Also there wasn't really money involved in the races, some of the people I had asked to race had just lost a lot of money and seemed scared of the entire sport. I'm not sure what was really going on with everyone, I would go up to anyone ask if they were running they would respond with an I don't know what are you driving, I would tell them and then offer to race them for 20 dollars, they'd hesitate and I would say how about for nothing, and they still wouldn't want to race. So then I would offer them lengths or the hit or whatever and some people would still say no, some would reluctantly say yes. It was weird, it was like people came there only to run cars that they knew they could beat by 10 lengths.
As for posting my times on dragtimes.com, I don't have a scanner readily available so it might take me a week or so to get them on there, but I will.
Also I am really hoping and planning to go back up there on Monday 5/26 to do some real running and really try and work on all the aspects of it and now worry about who I am going to race. The last time was more for fun and to see what I could do, I think this next time will be about improving everything.
So if anyone at all would like to go up to Great Lakes Dragway on Monday 5/26 please let me know, I will for sure go if someone else is coming, I'm sure it would be more fun with another person.
