Re: Who has out run the cops?
Ok, I quess I am bored, pulling a double today, so here goes...when I was an FTO, I used to set with rookies running radar, sometimes moving, sometimes stationary...he or she would have to learn to guess your speed within 5 mph, then check you with radar to see how close they were...some are very good at it...thus you learn not to even pay attn to anyone who isn't speeding only those who are. So, case in point #1 you had to attract their attn to begin with. Now, once they learn this, I would teach them common sense about who to stop and who not to stop. Point #2...if you are the lead car on a 2 lane w/ 2-3 cars behind you, you are speeding, whether we are moving or sitting still...we might pull out and head your way, but if it isn't safe to get around the other vehicles, then we aren't interested. You in the meantime may have decided to speed up, turn off, whatever, but we had already decided it wasn't safe just to write an infraction UTT. My advice to young officers is always the same, you saw the car, color, type, etc...he thinks he just got away w/ it, so he will speed again, and maybe this time there will not be traffic in the way...we aren't interested in injurying the public for a traffic citation....we would only pursue a felon...Doc
