Waht about putting it somewhere by the cupholder. It shouldn't be too hard to route the power back there.

The cig lighter will have to go somewhere else and like you said, back by the cup holder would probably be a good place to start looking for where to put it. Other idea would be putting it in the panel that goes around the shifter. Don't know if that's gonna work but that is where I will probably end up putting mine. I might put one on both sides and have one powered only when the car is on and another always powered whether the car is on or off.
