Let me start off by saying that i haven't had any moving violations on my record in the last 5 years.
I was on my home from work when I decided to take a slight detour to drive past a friend of mines to see the trees down in his yard. I had the top down, and as I made a left turn from a four way stop, I noticed that there was no one in my lane in front of me as far as I could see, and this was a fairly wide (2 wide lanes, plus a shoulder/break-down lane on each side) highway. So I shift into second and put the pedal to the floor. I'm watching my RPM's more than anything as I shift into third, and push it near red-line. I decide that's enough and glance at my speed at nearly 80 mph. I'm coasting as I look up and see a cop in his SUV comming towards me in the opposite lane. I know there's no hope as I look in my rear-view mirror and see that he's already got his lights on, and has pulled onto his shoulder to make a U-turn. At this point I have two options... Haul *** down the next road and try to lose him on the curvy, narrow country road. Or try and bail as soon as possible, and accept my punishment, and hope for mercy. I choose the later and quickly pulled over and wait (nearly 20 seconds) for the cop to catch up and pull in behind me. I just got the vehicle less than 3 weeks ago, and registered yesterday. He asks for my license and registration, and I give it to him. He asked why I was going so fast, and I say, "Well, it's a new car that I haven't had for very long, and..." The officer cuts me off to finish my sentence, "And you were just trying it out (pushing the limits (I don't remember which he said))." To which I replied "Ya, more or less." He must have thought he was funny when he said, "Well, just so you know it'll go at least 76 mph." He said he gave me a ticket, but it looks suspisiously like the summons I got when I was 18 for reckless driving.
76 mph in a 55 zone. That's going to be one expensive ticket. Evidently the "clean" record didn't mean much to the officer (In Indiana, if you go 3 years without any moving violations, then your record is cleared, at least for a first time offense), nor did the obviously new car.
