Re: Bluetooth headsets?
I had the Shure wired boom mic with my old phone and it was an absolutely awesome combination. I could hear and be heard with the top down at 80+ mph - the only drawback was that it was wired and had that long boom on it so it looked a bit "old tech". But the damn thing just worked so beautifully at noise cancelling.
I got a new phone in January and the interface is different, requiring an adapter to use little mini-jack devices like that Shure boom mic. No big deal, or so I thought. Something about that interface attenuates the sound level so dramatically that I can't get any decent volume on my end no matter how I adjust things. Others can hear me just fine, but I can't hear them very well even under the best of conditions.
I'm now using a Jawbone Bluetooth with the new phone and it's great - up to about 40~45mph with the top down, at which point it gets real noisy for people on the other end of the call and it can't deliver the volume I need to overcome the ambient wind noise. Great headset otherwise, but it has its limitations. I have yet to find a Bluetooth headset that does a better job of noise cancellation though, so for now 40~45mph is my "talk speed" limit with the top down.
