I get the impression from the replies that this is not a common problem.

I suspect it's a result of the "Crossfire trained" mechanic spending an hour and a half trying to get the dead on delivery radio out through the back of the console before he discovered that it was designed to come out through the front.

The lack of heat to the footwell is probably the result of the same maltreatment.
