Every single auto manufacturer even with the advanced oil life monitors cars have these days recommends the oil be changed at the 1 year mark once it's in the car REGARDLESS of how many miles the Oil Change computer says you have left. Oil breaks down just like old gasoline (which turns into a varnish like material).
Treat the fluids in your car just like the food you eat. You wouldn't want me to give you a beer that's been sitting for 2 years either.
The wrench can also indicate a low or too HIGH oil level condition in addition to being time to change the oil.
