I wouldn't have a problem with paint remover. Just be careful. A plastic trash bag works perfect for protection.

As for the difussers, I did mine silver to match the trim on the rest of the car. Someone else will have chime in on chroming plastic. There was a 'plastic chrome' thread last week on the forum, check it out.
