Default ZF transmissions?

HEllo, I ran into a gentleman who is an avid MB nut, and owns about ten, works on them regularly, said he he was quite familiar with the Xfires. I asked him if there were any known "issues" with the car. He told me that Chrysler used two different types of transmissions, a "chrysler" build and a ZF transmission, that they were interchangable, and really no rhyme or reason as to which manual tranny was fitted. Has anyone verified or heard of this? He told me the chrysler trannys had problems around 20K, the ZFs were solid. I called the dealerwhere Ibought mine, talked to one guy who looked up my car and said it had a ZF tranny, had a parts guy put my vin in his computer in CA, and he had no clue, which Im finding is the usual. Can anyone verify this or is it just bad info? thanks!
