Default ZF transmissions?

HEllo, I ran into a gentleman who is an avid MB nut, and owns about ten, works on them regularly, said he he was quite familiar with the Xfires. I asked him if there were any known "issues" with the car. He told me that Chrysler used two different types of transmissions, a "chrysler" build and a ZF transmission, that they were interchangable, and really no rhyme or reason as to which manual tranny was fitted. Has anyone verified or heard of this? He told me the chrysler trannys had problems around 20K, the ZFs were solid. I called the dealerwhere Ibought mine, talked to one guy who looked up my car and said it had a ZF tranny, had a parts guy put my vin in his computer in CA, and he had no clue, which Im finding is the usual. Can anyone verify this or is it just bad info? thanks!

Only knew of the NSG370 (manual, wide ratio I believe) and the W5A330 (Auto-Stick)

Thanks Justin, I couldn't swear 100 percent that the gentleman had his facts straight, nor the sales guys/service at Chrysler, so thats why I asked, usually we know lots more about the cars than the dealer themselves, the sales guy told me "Dats the new James Bond Car" I replied, hugh, wonder why its discontinued then?

Actually there was one version of the manual trans and two versions of the auto trans that were built into the cars... The manual version is the NSG370 and the two automatic versions are the NAG1 W5A580 & W5A330...

there is a diesle version of the 6 speed, I think the only difference is the first gear ratio is about 5:1 vs the crossfire's which is about 4:1. it's listed on a 4x4 site, and is used in a special light Jeep 4-cyling diesle

All good info, are those numbers the part number itself, that is, on the manual, and do you know who produced the transmissions themselves on the manual? As I mentioned I had heard ZF, which I believe is a german tranny maker, although I certainly could be wrong. I may google it later

edit: here is the link for ZF, its in German, however, I think there are proabably a host of articles on them in English. Maybe the guy was refering to two types of auto transmissions, at least he did say ZF made the transmission for the Chrysler, however, I think this needs further investigation, I'd like to know exactly what Im dealing with.

English site,
http://www.zf-transmissions.com/

Also found this pdf file which shows ZF transmissions for the 04-06 Crossfires, auto, dosnt mention manual.

I do not believe the Liberties (KJ) had a 6 speed option. (1st "Jeep" to have the CRD 2.8L) The newer 3.0L CRD is going to be offered in the "Jeep" Grand Cherokee Overland (WK) and rumored into the new Wranglers (JK) The NSG370 has been into Wranglers since 2005 with TJ and TJ Unlimited (aka LJ) The NSG 370 is also in JK and JK Unlimited models as well now.

The reason I use "Jeep" on those other models is because real Jeeps have 2 doors, not these sprots utility vehicles with the Jeep emblem on them

How did they distribute the two auto trannys? I'm guessing one went into the normal Crossfires and the other went into the SRT's?
