I am no great fan of spoiled kids (though I may be raising two of my own...) but I have to say that Crossfires can be had for less than $17K in pretty nice condition with low miles. Hell I got mine with 5000 miles and a factory warrantee still in effect for about that. It translates to a few hundred dollars a month. If a kid has a job that pays just a little more than minimum wage (and quite a few do) the car payment is well within reach.
If the kid was driving a McLaren SLR it would be a different story. I'd be screaming B.S. all over it.
Just my personal perspective - I love my Crossfire, but it has to be one of the best bargains I have ever seen. It's cheap, fast, AND good. It's getting hard to keep that fact a secret. We all want to drive around enjoying how "exclusive" they are and how "expensive" they look, but admit it, they're pretty darn cheap. You can get a base Hyundai for Crossfire money. Don't tell the people you're trying to impress!
When I was 16, I had already earned enough money on my own to buy one of these things cash - and that was in 1974. We were dirt poor and I worked my a$$ off and saved most of it. Spoiled? Sure - I spoiled MYSELF!
I won't tell you that I like everything that Smokey writes, but owning a Crossfire at 16 is not impossible.
