The auto will hold a gear to a certain limit. But just sometimes you would like to have control over the transmission. Diving deep into a turn and just picking the right gear to match RPMs is a thing to behold. Exiting corners becomes just so much easier. So I don't think anyone was saying this is not a sports car, just sometimes you do want just a little more control.
