Gentlemen, gentlemen........
You forget that as any object, including our hardons, approach a black hole & begin to enter the Event Horizon they will stretch & get longer & longer & longer because the gravitational pull is stronger as you get closer. This whole CERN thing may be a giant boon to MANkind! I don't know about you guys but a little extra length on any hardon can only be a good thing!
Besides Chuck's EXCELLENT observation of exactly where hardon's go when they collide I feel I must present the following simply to clear-up any common misconceptions about time travel.
If I may:
From a Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawkins, chapter 9, page 145, paragraph 2: "First there is the thermodynamic arrow of time, the direction of time in which disorder or entropy increases. Then there is the psychological arrow of time. This is the direction in which we feel time passes, the direction in which we remember the past but not the future. Finally, there is the cosmological arrow of time. This is the direction of time in which the universe is expanding rather than contracting."
So, it appears that even CERN & hardon collisions will not help us achieve any time travel. Sigh.......
BUT, true fact: the faster we move the more time we gain. The closer one approaches the speed of light the more time slows for the participant so therefore we gain time the faster we go! I consider this the perfect excuse to drive fast at all times.
We only gain a few nanoseconds but, hey, every nanosecond counts!!!
