thanks for your reply. i guess that i should have taken the tire to the store. as you mentioned the monitor is now malfunctioning. i guess that's the chance you take if you can't do anything but try to get moving again.
think i'll take a look at the suggestions members have posted about possible spares stored in the car (slk?). happy motoring...
