Realizing that I'm just making fun of myself by my next comment, most VW guys put them on their cars to be posers at car shows. Luckily, I never got much into the car show stuff. But yeah, most folks throw them on at shows or simply install them to show judges they have yet another (pointless) mod. I tried to do the VW/Audi car show thing a number of years ago, but frankly, it sucked. I was so much happier when I took my VW out of the shows and started doing HPDEs and autocrosses. The people are just much cooler at driving events.

I was considering using the city lights the next time I park on the street in Philly. However, I realized the only thing this will do is give my car some negative attention when it comes to thieves and meter maids!
