The styrofoam chunk wont come out until you remove the carpeted panels on the sides. They overlap the foam enough to stop removal. Unfortunately the passenger side compartment contains the air system for actuating the door and hatch locking mechanism. Mercedes cars use a vacuum to actuate the locks. If you notice, your locks operate slowly compared to mechanical actuators. There is enough room on the pass side to put the jack etc. but not in the foam.
