Hey, Doc, did you get your AARP membership application the day after you turned 50?
I remember that segment, especially the test drive on the two lane road where the broken white line down the middle of the road looked, as Morley said, "like tracer fire", followed by "this is no special effect...... this is 180mph". Great stuff.
Still, awesome as the Countach was to look at, fast as it was for the day, they aren't the highest quality auto on the road. But that totally misses the point of it. Sure, quality of Lamborghini and Ferrari automobiles has vastly improved over the years (thanks in good part to the Acura NSX), but if I could choose a car from that era - the Ferrari 512 Boxer would be it. Hands down. Far sexier to look at, and just as fast if not faster.
In Tom's original post he said " I just realized that my SRT-6 is better than a Countach." Well, "better" is a relative term, and quite subjective as well. The SRT-6 benefits from an additional 20 years of technological development and even Lamborghini engines produce far more power than did the mill in the Countach. So, the SRT-6 may be quicker than a Countach, and I'm 99.93% sure it's screwed together waaay better than a Countach, not to mention more practical and reliable than a Countach. But "better"? Line up a bunch of 10 year olds and ask them which they'd rather have. Or line up a bunch of 50 year olds with fake tans and gold chains around their necks and ask them. Almost all would choose the Countach. Which means I'd much rather have the Crossfire. Or the 512BBi
