Hey, Doc, did you get your AARP membership application the day after you turned 50?
I remember that segment, especially the test drive on the two lane road where the broken white line down the middle of the road looked, as Morley said, "like tracer fire", followed by "this is no special effect...... this is 180mph". Great stuff.

Still, awesome as the Countach was to look at, fast as it was for the day, they aren't the highest quality auto on the road. But that totally misses the point of it. Sure, quality of Lamborghini and Ferrari automobiles has vastly improved over the years (thanks in good part to the Acura NSX), but if I could choose a car from that era - the Ferrari 512 Boxer would be it. Hands down. Far sexier to look at, and just as fast if not faster.

In Tom's original post he said " I just realized that my SRT-6 is better than a Countach." Well, "better" is a relative term, and quite subjective as well. The SRT-6 benefits from an additional 20 years of technological development and even Lamborghini engines produce far more power than did the mill in the Countach. So, the SRT-6 may be quicker than a Countach, and I'm 99.93% sure it's screwed together waaay better than a Countach, not to mention more practical and reliable than a Countach. But "better"? Line up a bunch of 10 year olds and ask them which they'd rather have. Or line up a bunch of 50 year olds with fake tans and gold chains around their necks and ask them. Almost all would choose the Countach. Which means I'd much rather have the Crossfire. Or the 512BBi

I FOUND THE ORIGINAL EPISODE! on YouTube, of course. Man, it sure does look dated though it has been 23 years......I guess that dates me & the car!

As long as you guys are talkin Lambo's.....

This one was the one that always did it for me.... Miura SV. I remember reading the specs and a review as a young kid. In the text they said after such and such a speed, the front wheels came off the ground! Me, just being a kid and knowing nothing about poor aerodynamic design, always thought that it was the coolest car around. Imagine, going soooooo fast that the car wants to take off like a jet plane!

Haven't watched the episode yet but didn't it also have a couple of older women gushing over the car? I don't remember them calling the Countach "cute".

No problem. I still love the Countach, but I can honestly say that I'm glad I have an SRT-6 instead. Sure the Countach looks fabulous, and makes a ferrocious growl, but they did not perform as advertised. They also were hard to maintain. I'll stick with my German supercar.

Just remember that I had several pictures of a white Countach at the Cars & Coffee meet last April. I had previously posted a rear shot of the Countach and for some reason I'm not being allowed to repost the picture. So these other two will have to do.

The only spec you seem to be forgetting is that the Countach S could do 204mph.
Thats what the extra 6 cylendars were for

Yeah, the Countach is definitely more aerodynamic for high speeds. Just for giggles, I figured out the max speed of a stock SRT-6 coupe was about 175mph due to air resistance.

But I figure I'll sacrifice the extra 30 mph for an extra few buck in my pocket and a 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty.

I've never liked Lambo's. I just feel like ANY car company can make a really fast, well performing, gas guzzling car.

It takes a truly special design to actually be produced for the masses, withstand daily driving punishment, and not guzzle gas.

So Lambo, and other exotics, have never really gotten respect from me.

Its unfortunate because my favorite car of the old days and the modern days is the Ford GT, and it won't go over 13mpg.

This is why cars like the SRT-6, corvettes, carrera, etc are the truly impressive cars in my mind.

I suggest you seek professional help... now.

Remember how everyone says Lamborghini used to make tractors?

...

Well that was one of them.

I'd still park that 'tractor' right here in my driveway & be mighty proud!
