BTW ... I learned this the hard way ... as a young adult (well, I WAS young and was out of college so I was old enough to be considered adult, anyway) I had a car that had a tendency to both lose and burn oil .. I used to joke that the oil in it was 'self-changing' and just add a quart or two from time to time ... but, after I killed off a car or two and working as a service writer in an auto repair facility where I saw engines taken apart and being repaired, I started getting the idea that maybe following conventional wisdom would be a better way to go ...
