The Mobile synthetic does last a long time, at one point they advertised it as 14,000 mile oil.

That said I change at 5K because I want to drive the car hard and for a vey long time. I changed it at 1,100 miles for break in, again at 6K for the Dragon, and am now at 8K. I'll be changing again before 10K.

At 200K I will have spent $ 4,400.00 on dealer oil changes at todays prices.

Oil, even the Mobil synthetic, is far cheaper than an engine. It's as simple as that.
