Default Re: Clarion FB275BT SD-card head unit ordered

I installed the Blaupunkt London MP48 today. Believe it or not, the factory harness plugged directly into the back of this head unit and worked flawlessly. The only extra piece I needed was the euro antenna adapter which Crutchfield provided. The gray faceplate is a pretty good match, the buttons glow red like a lot of the buttons on the center console, and I was able to make the LCD screen identical to the dash lights.

I also installed the capacitor mad with 330uf caps. Very happy with the results. All bass is from the subs at this piont taking out all the small rattles that existed in the doors at high volumes before.

On the Blaupunkt, using the factory harness plugged directly into the back of the HU, loud was at about 30, I couldn't turn it past 40 without getting scared. I was curious what it would be like to change the 2 positive and 2 negative speaker wires to RCA pre-outs. The pre-out power on the London is 2V so now 30 is pretty quiet, 55 is Loud, and that's about as loud as I would want it, the **** goes much farther. I never reached the end while testing. I must say, I like the RCA pre-out appoach because it's easier to dial in that perfect sounding music rather than doing it via the double amplified signal. My head unit allows me to adjust bass, trebble, and mids. Very happy with the result, but if you are not comfortable with splicing RCA wires and doing a typical install rather than an easy install, I would just leave well enough alone and plug the factory harness into a Blaupunkt HU and love how much better it sounds.

I considered painting the black trim around the faceplate using the Testors hobby paint so that it matched the center console. After installing the way it comes, I really like the way it looks with the black trim around it. I think it blends in with the fan controls and whatnot very well. So I'm not going to paint anything right now.

All I have left is to get some curb rash off one rim, and do the cupholder bin replacement (part is already ordered) and my "new to me" crossfire will be perfect.
