Clarion FB275BT SD-card head unit ordered
hmmm, glad i decided to go another way. I'm confused, because every picture I've seen of it, it looks Silver not white. And I've never heard of a black one. The white looks like poop...
Is it just me or does it look like it sticks out too far? Or is that image a shot of it just sitting there and not fully mounted?
I don't mind the white so much considering it looks like the edge of the unit is trimmed in silver. it creates a buffer in between. its obviously after market so the silver trim helps join it into the dash.

It does look a little out of place but it could be the picture angle. Here are a couple shots of mine when I had it. Hope it helps

Also, did you need any special wire harness to connect this headunit? Crutchfield is recommending a Volkswagen Wire Harness and Euro Antenna Adapter. I believe the Euro Antenna Adapter, but the Volkswagen Wire Harness? Help!
Thanx
hey guys.
I have the white unit in my car and it looks great!,about the wire harness.....DONT BUY ONE !!!. you dont need it the stock harness fits this radio. all you need to buy is the radio antenna converter. hope this helps .

Thanks Victor. Glad I kept my finger off the Buy Now button because I was almost there. One last question for all those who own this. Reviews say horrible FM reception. Not that I will likely use it b/c I will either use the SD cards or stream online radio via bluetooth on my pda phone. But my question is...is it really as bad as people are complaining? And finally...I am assuming you can scroll through the music while in SD mode...right? (Another complaint I've read)
I'd rather get advice from those who have owned and used it rather that some fool who just likes to write Cons on all their reviews.
Thanks again...

about the radio , its not bad at all......unless you are picky! and demand full clarity from a 100$ unit.......but if your like me you will use the SD card almos 100% of the time. bluetooth also works great! i recomend to take the extra time and install the Mic that comes with it .....it made a big difference on my phone calls while in the car.
the scrolling part for music on the SD is a little tricky and you need time to adjust. once you learn how to switch from folder to folder in SD mode you can press the "back button " and the selector will drop down to the music of that folder then you can scroll by song with the **** insted of the "forward or back buttons" again unless you have tons and tons of music this may take a while . but remember that this unit does not handle "high capacity SD cards" so for now 2GB is the most I have been able to use.
hope this helps .

This really is a plug and play unit, that simple. Check post #16 out, if you haven’t already its just my .02 cents about this unit. Also, as mentioned by victorczx3
, install the mic that comes with. I ran mine through the dash, up the drive side pillar and mounted it in the corner. Just be careful and don’t pinch the wire when reinstalling the pillar or your going to have problems, trust me
.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Wow! $60?
I'll buy one, tonight.
Thanks for the info about the wiring kit! You saved me a good chunk of change.
I read that I still need the radio adapter, but do I also need the $10 radio removal tools?
Are there any radio removal tools included with the Clarion?
I'll buy one, tonight.

I got the London because I liked the silver finish and I found another thread where a guy painted the outside trim piece using Testors hobby shop paint. I thought it looked really nice and will attempt to do the same.

So if you plan on buying form them, no worries, you will get all that stuff for free as well.

I am not exactly looking to go through all of that just yet. I will probably call Crutchfield too but being Christmas, they are probably closed. If you have to do all these modifications, let me know and I will seek another route.
It looks good, and the front aux port is a very, very nice touch.
I'm not going to go that route if I have to rewire *anything,* or buy an amp.
I hope we hear back from xfirecoupe, soon. I'm getting anxious
By the way, the best possible receiver I've seen for the Crossfire is this:

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500AX10...-iDA-X100M.htm
However, it's $400. I'm sticking to the $150 range.

I should receive the MP48 on Monday via UPS. I have a bunch of days off from Tuesday til Sunday and hope to installe it then. I'll let you know how it goes as soon as I am done. MP57 looks very nice and I see they just lowered it to 199. The MP48 was 149 and should have all the features that I am interested in and install exactly the same as the MP57.

I know there are a few Clarion owners on here... can you tell me what else I would need?
I'm buying the FB275BT and the antenna adapter. Do I need any other cables / adapters / radio removal tools that aren't included with the receiver?

I installed the Blaupunkt London MP48 today. Believe it or not, the factory harness plugged directly into the back of this head unit and worked flawlessly. The only extra piece I needed was the euro antenna adapter which Crutchfield provided. The gray faceplate is a pretty good match, the buttons glow red like a lot of the buttons on the center console, and I was able to make the LCD screen identical to the dash lights.
I also installed the capacitor mad with 330uf caps. Very happy with the results. All bass is from the subs at this piont taking out all the small rattles that existed in the doors at high volumes before.
On the Blaupunkt, using the factory harness plugged directly into the back of the HU, loud was at about 30, I couldn't turn it past 40 without getting scared. I was curious what it would be like to change the 2 positive and 2 negative speaker wires to RCA pre-outs. The pre-out power on the London is 2V so now 30 is pretty quiet, 55 is Loud, and that's about as loud as I would want it, the **** goes much farther. I never reached the end while testing. I must say, I like the RCA pre-out appoach because it's easier to dial in that perfect sounding music rather than doing it via the double amplified signal. My head unit allows me to adjust bass, trebble, and mids. Very happy with the result, but if you are not comfortable with splicing RCA wires and doing a typical install rather than an easy install, I would just leave well enough alone and plug the factory harness into a Blaupunkt HU and love how much better it sounds.
I considered painting the black trim around the faceplate using the Testors hobby paint so that it matched the center console. After installing the way it comes, I really like the way it looks with the black trim around it. I think it blends in with the fan controls and whatnot very well. So I'm not going to paint anything right now.
All I have left is to get some curb rash off one rim, and do the cupholder bin replacement (part is already ordered) and my "new to me" crossfire will be perfect.
