Default New Stereo

I bought two Blaupunkt St Louis stereo's. One for the X-Fire. One for the semi I drive for a living. I wanted a Stereo that had Auxillary imputs so I could bring my XM radio unit home and use it in my Crossfire without haveing to pay for two services. When you drive a truck for a living Xm radio is a must. Suicide amongst truck drivers surely has dwindled with the advent of XM. The truck had the same connectors that the Crossfire has and it plugged right in and worked. Didn't even need to change the sleeve. In the Crossfire I painted the surround silver to match the dash as the original was black and didn't look quite right. It's a little darker silver than it shoulda been, but looks nice. I think I'll leave it this color. As for putting the stereo in. It was a breeze. First let me warn you. This was a navigation equiped car. I found out the hard way how different the factory navi\ non-navi units are. Including the antenna adaptor. Mine didn't need an adaptor for the antenna. Being a German unit, it comes with the standard euro connector so my antenna plugged right in. It also comes with the adaptor to plug American antenna's into it. I did need to clip the telephone mute wire as it caused the stereo to freeze in telephone mode. Dunno if this is a problem with non-navi units or not. I like this unit cause they are selling dirt cheap. I bought these stereo's from Ebay for $112.00 apiece including shipping. They are tame enough looking as to not look out of place with the interior. I've gotten the color on the screen down to a dead on match. Some of the cool things about this setup is that the speed sensitive volume works,"sorry non-navi owners''. When you hit the power button with the key out of the ignition the stereo will come on, same as the factory unit. On my new Metallica Cd the label and song titles scroll across the lower right of the screen. Same with some radio stations. The day\ night brightness feature works with this car. Alas, there is no bluetooth. But thats not a feature I'm interested in. Now, you might ask why I didn't replace this unit with a Navigation unit. I must say I will miss the compass feature. But in my truck I use navigation on a laptop. The navigation is from DeLorme. They sell a portable unit that allows you to either plan you trip on it, or even better, you can plan the trip on your laptop and download it to the portable unit. In the end I couldn't be happier with this setup. Nice form and function for less than Wal-Mart prices.
