Stereo is able to turn on while key is out of ignition?

Stereo is able to turn on while key is out of ignition?
Is this normal? freaked me out as I was walking to my front door I heard the stereo come on. Any suggestions friends? Thanks in advance.

The radio can be turned on without the key in the ignition, it will automatically turn itself off after a half hour or so or when it senses the battery is getting too weak to start the car.
