It may come as a surprise to most people, as it was to me, that the cup holder was designed by a German engineer, Werner KoffeKoop, who won first prize with it in a competition to find the most fancy gadget that looked great but was capable of annoying the most people.
At the prize giving dinner he stood up and knocked a cup of coffee all over himself.
Its true, honestly.
