Actually I think the "legal" term for side-pipes is really "Off the road exhaust". I think the only "American" cars that came from the factory with them (already installed) were the Corvette and AC Cobras. Of course the AAR Cudas and TA Challengers of 1970 had tail pipes that exited in front of the rear wheel, and maybe a Mustang in the late 90's did too.
Pat, one way to take care of the rear view problem may be to "surgically" remove the two panels that boarder the existing tailpipes. Then fabricate an "air extractor" that's similar to the one on the latest Vipers and the Ford GT. Or you could relocate the license plate to the old tailpipe location, then come up with something "imaginative" to go between the tail lights.

Why mess with perfection? It's called customizing plain and simple. Some people like it, some don't. It's still a "relatively" free country, isn't it?
