I usually stage at 1500 RPM too. You are so right, the trick is how quickly you roll on the throttle. And track prep is crucial. Good prep, you can apply the gas very quickly, even floor it right away, even on street tires. Bad prep, you have to roll into more slowly. My last run at Orlando, the track prep was so good I was able to stage at 1600-1700 RPM and floor it on street tires (see my sig. for mods). I got two 1.7x 60' doing this. My last two runs of that night were horrible, though, trying to launch the same way. The sticky stuff on the track must have worn down. I spun tire like no tomorrow.
