You need an OBDII code scanner. you can also buy these at Auto Zone or just have them scan if for free. I really don't think you fixed anything by disconnecting the battery. Get the code! I really think you have an issue with the air/fuel ratio. when you stomp on the throttle if the engine can't match the air/fuel ratio the computer will throw you into a fail safe to protect the engine. It sounds like fuel filter, injectors, fuel pump or air filter. you are not getting enough fuel or air and most likely fuel. How many miles are on the car? Ever replaced the fuel filter?
