Like some of you said, it'll still say you have 1,000 miles to go before it needs a change. Does it have like a digital countdown or something? lol...or how does it work?

I've only test driven a couple of them, so I'm not that knowledgeable of them. I'll have to download the manuals and read them one day.

Yes when it gets close to being due the odometer will show a wrench and a number when the car is turned on. If it reaches zero it goes into negative for example -100

Just make sure to reset the FSS every oil change.

Oh and I also change it when it tells me to. I put most of my miles on my car during the "winter" here in FL and ride my bike during the summer so I am not a high mileage driver either. I have had my car a year and only changed it twice. Once when I bought it last April and yesterday.
