Need New Tires
It's now my turn to buy new tires and I have some questions for you intrepid trailblazing tire buyers of the past.
First off, I'd like to get wider tires to help protect what is left of my rims. After playing with the tire/wheel fitment sticky program and reading through dozens of tire threads, I'm still not sure what can be done with the front tires. I remember reading a thread where someone noted that increasing the front tire width is not doable, is this absolute or can a 235/40 or maybe a 235/35 be mounted?
275 width for the rear tires seem popular. Any preference for a 30 or 35 ratio?
The General Exclaim, Hankook, and Kumho all have gotten favorable reviews from the forum. The negative reviews on Tirerack mostly concern premature wear and excessive noise as the miles build up. Can someone provide real life experience about tire life and noise?
The above three tires are very appealing due to their relatively low cost. Another option though is Michelin PS A/S Plus. They are significantly more expensive but their much higher wear rating (500) may actually make them more cost effective. They have also gotten excellent reviews. So, does anyone have any experience with the A/S Plus?
I know there are other brands to consider but Tirerack does not carry or have reviews on them. In addition, my Discount Tire dealer told me that Falken has been discountinued for the sizes the Crossfire needs. Other tires either got too many negative reviews, are out of stock, or cost so much that I would single handidly cause economic recovery if I bought a set. But if someone has an alternative suggestion then please pipe up. Thanks!
