Smile Re: Which chip is for real?

I know there are a lot of opinions, including mine, but most CHIP Mods (can't say all because I don't know that) are done by the ECU maker either offically or unofficially. MB, Chrysler, Porshe, BMW all use ECU's made by the same German company. I had my Chip Mod done, by Upsolute. When they pulled the ECU out it had a part number number which they had not seen before and did not match any of the CHIP files they had. They called the ECU maker in Germany. Having been statioined in Germany I knew enough German to understand the jist of the conversation. Basically the factory guy said: Yha, that's (my ECU) an early version, "I didn't do this but, give me a couple of hours I'll send you a file to MOD it." In about two hours the German Manufactor called back and e-mailed a mod for my ECU. Had mine done in Oct 04, haven't had any problems.

Basically you gota trust the guy who does the job. Reputation is important and you want to deal with someone you have confidence in. But my opinion is it really doesn't matter who dose the mod. The only important thing is that its done right and you are comfortable with whoever does it. There probably are differences in each Performace Companies MOD's, but I am happy with what I got. Don't know if the engine will blow up or what, but usually when you increase engine performance you decrease engine life. When you run something flat out it usually doesn't last as long as if you take it easy and drive"normally" - but it's alot more fun.
