Which chip is for real?
I am new here to this forum however if enough people were interested in chipping their crossfires I would introduce a group buy and if enough of you wanted to do dyno we might be able to do a dyno day as well. I have chipped a crossfire here on this forum it belongs to MIKE it has axis wheels.
I know there is alot of chip tuners out there however we are currently one of few that are authorized by MB, BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Audi, VW. The reason I say we are authorized as we do day to day business with just about every big dealership here in southern california.
If interested just reply.

I know there are a lot of opinions, including mine, but most CHIP Mods (can't say all because I don't know that) are done by the ECU maker either offically or unofficially. MB, Chrysler, Porshe, BMW all use ECU's made by the same German company. I had my Chip Mod done, by Upsolute. When they pulled the ECU out it had a part number number which they had not seen before and did not match any of the CHIP files they had. They called the ECU maker in Germany. Having been statioined in Germany I knew enough German to understand the jist of the conversation. Basically the factory guy said: Yha, that's (my ECU) an early version, "I didn't do this but, give me a couple of hours I'll send you a file to MOD it." In about two hours the German Manufactor called back and e-mailed a mod for my ECU. Had mine done in Oct 04, haven't had any problems.
Basically you gota trust the guy who does the job. Reputation is important and you want to deal with someone you have confidence in. But my opinion is it really doesn't matter who dose the mod. The only important thing is that its done right and you are comfortable with whoever does it. There probably are differences in each Performace Companies MOD's, but I am happy with what I got. Don't know if the engine will blow up or what, but usually when you increase engine performance you decrease engine life. When you run something flat out it usually doesn't last as long as if you take it easy and drive"normally" - but it's alot more fun.

Power wise, yes more pull thru all speeds definitely quicker stronger feel.
Eibachs lowered 1"-1-1/4 in rear less roll rides the same to better, no harshness at all!! Looks good.

Had the Upsolute put in mine...guy out of Charlotte, NC...feel the difference at 3,000 rpm and up...2nd/3rd gears much stronger. Horsepower numbers? I'd guess 15 is the high end, but the feel is certainly there.

He coordinated the upgrade with a live M-B technician in Germany during the overwrite process. Since M-B assists in the upgrade, it is completely safe. These are the chip changes that are made:
1. Faster throttle response.
2. Increase of 10 - 15 HP from 215 BHP @ 5700 RPM to 225 - 230 BHP @ 5700 RPM.
3. Gain of 12 Lbs.-Ft. Torque from 229 lbs.-ft @ 3,000 -4,600 RPM to 241 lbs.-ft. @ 3,000 - 4,500 RPM.
4. Gain of 300 RPM over the Red Line.
5. Raises the electronically controlled top speed limiter from 158 MPH to over 186 MPH.
6. Increases the shifting RPM in first and second gears by 100 RPM and makes shifting throughout the gears smoother (with Autostick).
My Limited Roadster now runs like a dream and is very peppy! (I also added K & N Air Filters.)

As for the guy that has never heard of Upsolute apparently never looked very hard as they have been around a long time.
I would like to see photo's of the "turbo SL55". How do the numbers the turbo is putting down compare to the stock SC?
Personally if/when I get chipped it will be by one of the following companies:
1) RENNtech
2) Kleeman
3) PowerChip (and they are a distant 3rd)
You're right about "company time," but the rest of the story is probably true. A lot of folks "make a few bucks on the side by doing "outside work." When I had mine done the tech called an engineer at the box manufacturer in Europe. They spoke German. My ECU had a code number that they did not have a mod file for. They discussed weather one on the files he had would work. The engineer said no and that he would send him a file for it. I understood enough of the conversation to understand what was said. Within two hours they sent him a mod for my car. ECUs are made for the auto makers (MB, BMW, etc ) by the ECU manufacturer, I don't remember the name of the company but one company makes most if not all of them.
