BTW: It's amazing the things that can get sucked out of the cabin at 120-plus, so best keep your stuff stowed in the trunk. My primary dread of running Alligator Alley at a high rate of speed is just that - running over one of the damn things. Yikes.
But back to my question, can anybody explain to me how and why these cars are governed for speed right out of the box? I don't make a habit of cruising much over 5,000 rpm, but when I do, how and what does the ECU arbitrarily deploy to limit my speed to 150?
From what I am reading, the ECU simply limits RPM in every gear - for both the sixspeed and the autostick. I also read that the ECU can be tuned to run at higher RPM's, but this would naturally void a warranty. If the ECU is re-mapped (tuned), is it automatically reset to OEM specification when visiting the stealership for maintenance or repair? What's the real deal, anyone?
Still learning.
