Re: Got the tach to about 4900-5100
You know I always said:
1) I'll never make payment on something with an auto.
2) I'll never buy a car.
As I drove around Savannah on June 21, driving two Coupes and one Roadster (one Coupe was a 6 speed)... I was amazed at how fun these cars are. And when I drove the Roadster (last car I drove that day) I KNEW I had to have one. A Roadster. Period. (I brought this one home July 6).
Well, I told the lady who owned the Roadster (Shawn) that I was about to violate rule 2 above - and that I was actually thinking I might violate rule 1 as well! It's all because of the Crossfire - this is not a 'car' in the usual sense. Not at all. This is a different world altogether.
I don't drive cars - cars are boring and are for weenies, family men, and other such animals that dont' understand that front wheel drive is stupid, and cars are boring. (It wasn't this way in the 50's or 60's or even 70's). But again, the XF is not a "car".
"Little Debbie" was advertised as a stick. I was SO disappointed at first (and that look on my face took $1,000 off the price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) But I remembered what I told Shawn - that I was not sure I wanted a stick. And, I was standing next to a car that had spent four years in a garage - driven only 13,351 miles, and was so clean, even under the hood, that it actually passed for a new car three days after I bought it! Better yet, I was going to buy it for less than 1/2 of the $41,608 sticker price. (Original owner was said to have paid $36,000 even in 2005).
Oh, then there was the CarFacts report... everything about this car told me to buy it. I STILL cannot believe that I own a car with an auto and love every minute of driving it, cleaning it, vacuming it, fussing over it and TALKING about it. And it is not just me - even the guy at the Interior shop said "Ya gotta bring it up here when you pick up your 303 - we see so few of them". When I get gas, WITH NO EXCEPTIONS, I am approached (80-90% of the time by women) and end up being asked all about the car.
When I go to Waffle House, I cant get away from people who just have to ask, "What is THAT?" I get waves, thumbs up, smiles, etc. at traffic lights.
No one cares that it's an automatic.
I thought I was gonna be REAL MAD at myself for buying an auto. I am not. But again, the XF is not like any other car, or any other toy, or any other interest.
The XF came from nowhere six weeks ago - have never even heard of them before that! Now, they are all I can think about. It's been six weeks and "it" isn't wearing off!
I love this car, and this forum is a godsend to me.
