Ok, just read this again and understand you haven't YET broken anything!!
Ok, I'd not worry too much, if I can do it and not mess it up, it' can't be that hard!
Simply take the four screws out as usual and THEN gently pull up and start removing the console carefully. When you get it up enough to get your left hand (assuming you are in the driver's seat) under the console - carefully grasp the line right at the lock mechanism and work it free.
If you are doing this at the Dragon, I'll be there for moral support!
Again, if I can do it and not mess it up, I think anyone can. I am an electronics technician NOT a mechanic or installer! (Been in the field 28 years, worked on all kinds of stuff - then last year when I tried to install a radio in a police car, I put two holes in the gas tank.
