Here in Georgia, the registration fee is $20 and the ad valorum tax is based on the current market value of the car. My 11 year old pickup was taxed at $24 this year. In 2000, when I moved here, it was $136.

When you buy the car, you pay sales tax, at renewal, they get you for ad valorum, so I won't pay it, whatever it is, until March.
