I asked the guy at a body shop to check it out for me. I said it was a common problem. He didn't want to do it.... told me a little rust is bound to happen and said it is best not to pull the strip off (because getting it back on is a pain). I offered to pay this guy (who has been doing this 30 years) and he could have easily done the job and made money but he refused. He felt like it wasn't worth it.

By the way, water does run down through the door when it rains and out the bottom holes. No car is 100% water tight. They are all designed to let water flow through the inner panels of the door (most of the water flows on the outside).
