We have a co-processor, called the subcoscious mind. If your starting a tough or new unfamiliar task the assist of the co processor is helpful.

Ever start a task and return to it later to find that is started moving and going easier?

If your new to cars and tear into a power steering pump without a lot of tools and experience, going slow allows the task to be LESS frustrating and therefore LESS difficult.

Id suggest that if time is available that you make a schedule for yourself that does not push you which would add to your stress. Only makes sense, especially if you done have a lift etc. etc........

BTW I have all the tools and found my Dakota PS pump to be a real tussel especially the pulley removal...........
