Power steering pump done, quoted $1000. How hard to replace myself?
Cuz I sure as hell am not paying 600 dollars for a bs "mopar" part when I can get an aftermarket one for 150. Has anyone ever done this repair? If so how hard is it, does it take any special skills/tools, and can a basic mechanic do it? I have a buddy who works as a tech for a local garage, would he be able to do it if I wasn't?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Picture3 005.jpg In the manual it doesnt look hard at all actually.....its only 7 steps and 1 page. Oh this is from a 04 N/A crossfire manual I dont know if it would be different for a srt6
If you dont try to rush it and take several days to spread it out, it will be a piece of cake.
Doing it one night for the first time will be stressful if you have to drive it to the office the next morning.
There are plenty of people here that will assist, so if you have tools go for it. Woody

No for right now the car is sitting. I drive a 2006 Subaru impreza wrx sti and am in the process of selling the xfire. It wont sell even in perfect condition, it sure as hell won't with no power steering.

you could take the whole engine out in a day... why "spread this out" over a couple of days??
We have a co-processor, called the subcoscious mind. If your starting a tough or new unfamiliar task the assist of the co processor is helpful.
Ever start a task and return to it later to find that is started moving and going easier?
If your new to cars and tear into a power steering pump without a lot of tools and experience, going slow allows the task to be LESS frustrating and therefore LESS difficult.
Id suggest that if time is available that you make a schedule for yourself that does not push you which would add to your stress. Only makes sense, especially if you done have a lift etc. etc........

BTW I have all the tools and found my Dakota PS pump to be a real tussel especially the pulley removal...........
