Brake wear is not an exact science, some people can make a set of brake pads last 2 sometimes 3 times as long than another person.
That's not critisizing anybody, it's just that we all have different braking techniques.
I would say that brake wear is pretty much an exact science. Use them and they wear, using them harshly a lot means they wear faster, using them gently and less means they last longer. Simple.
By monitoring your braking and accelerating to suit the conditions you save on brakes, gas, and tires. I'd say that was a win, win and win result.
But I'm an old git, so what do I know.
