Default re: Sticky Ignition Key Fix for all Crossfires 2004 thru 2006

This has to of been the biggest pain in the rear... lots of patience is required and a dremel. Pull the trim out from under the stearing wheel. Then pull the trim off around the instrument panel. I skipped drilling out the pin because the drills I have are cordless and too big. Instead I cut out a small conduit just wide enough for the pin to move through. It took a little over an hour to drill it out.

Now the spring loaded hatch everyone is talking about, it's not much of a hatch. I used a flathead screwdriver and a hammer to trim the four small indentations. I had to use a steak knife and hammer then to get underneath the metal piece to actually pop it off. Heads up this is the point where you may want to put it in a bag or a bathroom. The metal plate comes flying off with the spring behind it. There is a pin inside that you just need to flip the entire mechanism over and it will come out. Once that is out the key turns. Even though I made the conduit there is a clamp that bolts down and will hold the entire assembly in place.

One last note the locking mechanism will not engage unless you pull the key out, you can try this before you put it back in. Therefor there is no chance for this thing to engage while you are driving.

Hope this was a little helpful, and hope that you're not too tall or big. Otherwise removing the trim is a pain.
