I always found that trying to adjust the head lights in the dark with a long clear area in front of the car you can see where the center of the beam will be strongest, on the ground in front of the car, or pull up on to a level surface with the light shining on the garage door and ajust the beams accordingly, of course another good way to adjust them is when its foggy out you can then really see your beam path, which will aid you in adjusting them so there not aiming to high but still where you can get optimal vision of the road ahead.
