I thought it might be an isolated incident too, and just made sure to straighten out my wheels before turning off my car.

The next time it happened it left me stranded. I had to tow it at my cost as the warranty did not cover a second towing. The key lock cylinder now has to be replaced, along with the key. The dealership also had to order an extra part to fix it (don't even know what this is). All of this at a cost around $700. They have had to call in an ignition specialist to even get the ignition out of my car.

If you have a Crossfire, it is very likely you will have to have this replaced. At the first sign it is doing this, get it replaced or you will end up stranded too.
An ignition specialist??? Please tell me either you're joking or that's what the stealership told you..... My Crossfire left me stranded on this as well some 2 years ago on the 3rd of July. I replaced the ignition myself. It's not hard, all you need is patience and time. A good vacuum cleaner will help out too with all the metal shavings. I spent I believe like 3-400$ in parts. I remember going to Mercedes Benz of West Chester (I was living in Pennsylvania at the time) for the parts, except the tumbler because that's VIN specific and MB couldn't get that because they just sold the Chrysler portion. If you get the lock cylinder you'll also get the plastic ignition switch with it. The tumbler will come with a key (won't start the car though, although it will unlock the door). You then have to cut out the lock cylinder assembly. I used a dremel with a cutoff wheel.

But an ignition specialist??? No no no.. I work on Volvo's and the ignition cylinder is almost the same, except I only have to drill out two security bolts on the XC90's so a little easier.
