True or not doc, you aren't gonna hurt it downshifting as you come off the highway. Fairly tame manouvre and not much heat will develope.

Can't say that about the brakes. Yes they are designed for it but the design includes an intentional sacrificial part. And the bloody mess gets all over my wheels.
Costs nothing to downshift. Clean up is a snap.

Plain and simple.
