I think, when using autostick manually, and you start in 1st (just like a 4speed manual), the car will not allow you to over rev. the engine. Even though you are manually shifting an autostick, it will upshift to 2nd before you over rev. the engine.
Am I correct? I thought thats what I had noticed. I don't really race drive ours, shes more of a cruizer for us.

Wonder what would an XF be like with paddle shifters?

Can't say that about the brakes. Yes they are designed for it but the design includes an intentional sacrificial part. And the bloody mess gets all over my wheels.
Costs nothing to downshift. Clean up is a snap.

Plain and simple.

Franc, surely as long as you have been around, you have ceramic pads on your baby. I have not seen a speck of dust on my wheels since I put the Akebono's on mine.

27K miles, still on original pads. I'll change out when i do the SRT calipers and SS lines.
No hurry.
I hardly use my brakes as it is.

I replaced mine at 25K, and the original pads still look about as thick as new ones. With the SRT wheels, I just got tired of cleaning the wheels every time I took her out. I don't know why, but I kept the original pads..... Seemed like a waste to throw them away when they still have so much life left in them. Maybe someone will need them some day, and I can offer them up.

if you want to downshift the auto, that is fine and with the safeguards put into the new trannys, it shouldn't be a problem. In the old days, there wasn't a relief for the pressure created when down shifting and you would ruin the tranny....again, the more you use it, the warmer it will get...so, a quick run thru the twisties at the Dragon for example is all I would want to do, and give it a rest...normal driving should not be a problem at all....and to answer the other question...yes, you can put in first, floor it, don't do anything, and the tranny will shift to 2nd, then you can shift to 2nd, the tranny will shift to 3rd, then you shift to 3rd and so on...but, 1 warning...if you wait for it to shift into 5th...you are now at 130....or better...with a tune......lol

I'm with you on that one....lol...but in my days as a young drag racer...that B&M was a trick set up...I was working two jobs to pay for it too...I had a special shifter and linkage that came with it...instead of D 2 1....it was 1 2 3.....with gates so you couldn't miss a shift...and these stick people may laugh, but that tranny shifted instantly, and the stall was just like dropping the clutch...wish we could do that today with the XF...it would be trick...
