If the engine shuts down on a hot day, the fan shuts down and the temp in engine bay spikes. The sun is baking down on the hood , it would take an extremely long time to drop to outside temp.- I gotta believe the manuf. who do employ fan after-burn are wanting to protect not the engine so much as the other components ie:ecu, modules etc. from extreme heat. (just a theory)
