rad cooling fan
rad cooling fan
Is there a mod to allow the fan to keep running after ignition is off?
I realized the fan shuts down when ignition is off regarless of temp. level .
On really hot days this would reduce engine temp. greatly.
Not sure why MB does not engineer this into their cars.

Re: rad cooling fan
I understand what you are getting at. But for the fan to run without the engine running, would only reduce the heat to a minimum. Without the water circulating through the engine, I don't think it would do much once the radiator is cooled down. Now if you could install an electirc water pump to run at the same time you may have something.

Here is another idea to toss around.
On the Crossfire, once you shut your car off, you can hit the 'recirculate' button on the dash, which will allow your blower motor to run on a timer to dry out the AC evaperator coil. I am sure you could come up with a way to tie in a relay to allow your coolant fan to do the same thing.

If the car was overheating it may be useful but that would have been caused by some other problem and if you fixed the problem you would not need it to be cooled in this manner.

I don't see why you want to do this... Now I DO acknowledge that these cars run too hot, but this won't help with that.
Re: rad cooling fan
Certainly, this is a commonly used method of cooling vehicles thru-out the industry. If it did not serve a valid purpose, they would not waste the $.
I think it helps combat hot engines and reduce stress on other components as well, It is not in itself going to cool down the engine 100% but would help.
There is no overheating issue that I am addressing with this thread as that indicates other problems.
Battery drain should not be much at all when the fan is running at 4 amp +/-

Re: rad cooling fan
The fan is 4 amps at reduced voltage, at 12 volts it will pull the car forward.
Cooling the radiator is minimal benefit. Pull offf the hood blanket and the rubber trim on the front and back to get better cooling on the road and when parked.
Me I did it differently, but of course. Woody

That would save on gas

I am not reventing the wheel as numerous manuf. employ this method for cooling. There must be a valid reason besides minimal benefit. Woody , I am asking not arguing.

Why does aftermarket fan sound like it wants to take off?
I never noticed oem so loud. jeeezzzz , figured this one out. Almost all elec. connectors can only connect one way - not so for the fan -- I had reversed polarity so she was like a bat out of hell -

Re: rad cooling fan
If the engine shuts down on a hot day, the fan shuts down and the temp in engine bay spikes. The sun is baking down on the hood , it would take an extremely long time to drop to outside temp.- I gotta believe the manuf. who do employ fan after-burn are wanting to protect not the engine so much as the other components ie:ecu, modules etc. from extreme heat. (just a theory)
