As if that whole "Pizza and Hope" thing wasn't enough... (and I guess I am still messed up in the head over it)
So, last Saturday, I was changing oil in the Crossfire, pickup, lawn mower and lawn vac. I got the car done, and as I started the truck "Don" (my illegal CBer-neighbor, nice guy, really good as a neighbor) came over to yak. Well, I KNEW I was being distracted and I KNEW I should sit down and just talk to him, but nnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooo- I had to keep working.
I crawled under the truck, took the plug out and drained the oil. I then yanked off the old filter and put the new one on. I moved the drain pan outta the way and put the used oil in a jug.
I then put in 5 quarts of new oil. (Get the idea -never put the plug back in). I didn't see it, but I now have 5 quarts of oil in the lawn. Well, Don eventually went home and I did the mower and vac.
Got a shower. Dressed. Then thought I'd go to Wendy's, a mile away, to get something to eat.
You guessed it, took the truck. Got about 3/4 miles down the road when the engine had enough. Truck has no idiot light, just a stupid needle that I never notice. And I never heard the rods until seconds before the end ... pushed the clutch in and the engine died. It never seized up, but it refused to restart. I theorize that either all the valve train parts are ruined or the rings and cylinders are shot - meaning there is no compression to support firing.
I'v been changing oil in cars LITERALLY since two years before I started to drive (age 15). NEVER have I done something like this. The truck was a 98, had 170,000 on it. A/C and everything else worked very well. Engine was still solid.
This is just not gonna be my year. I'm almost afraid to drive the car now!
