Neither. It is a printed "fabric" that is bonded to the piece then several layers of clear coat covers it. You may have noticed it on my windshield surround, engine belt cover and air boxes and console. Stuff wears like iron and you care for it as you would the exterior paint.

Karl, I don't know how I missed this, but did you come up with the "turned" finish....we use to do this on some of the pro stock cars when I was a kid working at Norm Paddack's shop...I didn't do it, but one of the sheet metal guys did on the vertical mill....it is a great look if done right...I take it, yours is an overlay....plastic? or real metal?.....
